How to freshen up your home for 2018

We’re almost two weeks into the new year – how the holidays flied. From our Northland real estate and property management teams, we hope everyone had a wonderful time celebrating and relaxing with family and friends. If you aren’t already back at work after the festive season (luck you!) you’re probably getting organized and still trying to stick to those new year’s resolutions.

So, if you’ve freshened up your life in one way or another with a diet, new exercise plan or a more positive approach to life, why not do the same to your home? That way everything feels fresh, shiny and new and when everything in your life feels like that, those resolutions are more likely to stick – and this will make you feel far happier!

You don’t have to renovate your home or outlay too much cash to give your home a facelift. With these few tips, your home will be gorgeous and fresh in no time. Give them a try and tell us how you go!

Change up the colour scheme

There are so many affordable homewares retailers around Whangarei and Bream Bay that offer great, cost-effective textiles such as cushion covers, duvets, throws and rugs. If you’ve had the same red coloured cushions for the last decade then give the room a facelift by choosing a bright teal, yellow or lime instead.

Change from blinds to windows or vice versa

The way natural light comes into a room has a huge impact on its overall look and feel. If you have had the same dark curtains for years, why not change it up with some sheer white ones? Or, if you are tired of curtains and are looking for a more modern look, try some veneer blinds. Just make sure you shop around for a good quality product that won’t cost an arm and a leg.

Prune the garden

For busy families, the garden is one area of the home that too often is forgotten about. You will be amazed at how more open, inviting and tidy your property will look with a simple prune and mow. Spray the weeds or pull them out yourself and make sure any paths are swept.

Waterblast the exterior

On the outdoor note, waterblast the exterior of your home to make it look brighter and better. Be careful of any areas where paint may be chipped though. Give the driveway and any garden paths a blast. This is cheap if you know someone with a machine and just takes a couple of hours!

There’s nothing more refreshing then a facelift with paint. Choose a new colour and brighten up some rooms in your home. You can even be creative and (using waterproof paint) paint splashback tiles or kitchen cabinets. If you’re short on time, then consider simply giving the skirting boards and architraves a bright coat to liven up the house.

Indoor plants

If you don’t have some already, bring the outside in with some gorgeous, lush potted plants. Head to Mitre10 and take a look at their garden section for something that suits your home. Fiddle Leaf Figs, Snake Plants, Aloe Vera or Peace Lilies are very indoor suitable with not too much maintenance.

Enjoy giving your home a facelift over the weekend. We promise some TLC around your house will make it feel fresh and new again, helping you to stay invigorated well into the year.
